The author discusses the role of social capital in economic life. In the first part – she introduces the idea of social capital and its six elements: participation in networks, reciprocity, trust, social norms, a sense of the “commons”, co-operation and being proactive. The author also presents economists’ opinions on the influence of social capital on economy. The last part of the paper describes the role of social capital on the labour market and its influence on innovativeness and entrepreneurship
