The Tasks and Priorities of the New Evangelisation in the Light of the Resolutions of the 2nd Polish Plenary Synod

The 2nd Polish Plenary Synod was held in the years of 1991-1999. Its first document focused on the new evangelisation which became the programme of the pastoral activity of the Church in Poland for the third millennium. The Synod pointed to the need of preaching – with new zeal, modern means and methods – the good News about Jesus Christ to all people. The Synod's resolutions point to ecclesial awareness among the faithful, i.e. responsibility for the Church in the universal, diocesan, and parochial dimensions. The new evangelisation presupposes that people take a reliable stance to their calling to holiness through the sacramental life of the faithful and their inclusion in the communal religious practices. The document of the 2nd Polish Plenary Synod draws on the material from the sources of the Scriptures, Vatican Council II, the Magisterium of the Church, especially the teaching of John Paul II. The Christians' task is to adjust them to the current socio-cultural circumstances, embracing all the domains of human life with the evangelical truth.
