The PM BLDC motor control system needs the information about the rotor position to ensure the correct commutation. The cheapest and the easiest way to obtain the rotor position seems to be the use of the Hall effect or optical sensors. It should be noted that these additional elements can reduce the reliability of the whole system. Influence of damage of such sensors on speed and electromagnetic torque waveforms is shown in this work. A comparison between healthy and faulty conditions is based on the analysis of the phase currents vector hodograph on the α–β plane.
