This paper concerns the influence of deep bar effect on start up performances of line start permanent magnet synchronous motor. On the basis of FEM model there were carried out static characteristics of torque and current versus speed for different materials of rotor bars. The results show that proper design of rotor winding enables reaching total asynchronous torque higher than nominal torque
