Supplying external carbon sources to treated wastewater is often necessary to achieve high efficiency by wastewater treatment plants that must meet very strict requirements for reducing the nitrogen concentration. The use of conventional carbon sources brings high operating costs for wastewater treatment. It became a reason to look for other, alternative sources of organic carbon. The paper presents the effectiveness of nitrogen removal from wastewater with the use of glycerol as an external carbon source. The research was carried out during the municipal wastewater treatment process in two independent SBR-type activated sludge chambers on a laboratory scale.
