Elżbieta Kazimierzówna (Elisabeth of Poland) in Szczecinek. A Contribution to the History of the Polish-Pomeranian Relations in the Middle Ages and their Significance in Polish People’s Republic

The article is concerned with the legend of Duchess Elisabeth, daughter of King Casimir the Great, supposedly buried in Szczecinek – Świątki (known as Marienthron before 1945). The legend was propagated during the period of Polish People’s Republic and it fit into the western ideology expressed in the mythology of the so-called Recovered Territories. This paper describes all the traces of the memory of Duchess Elisabeth having been cultivated, such as: the street name Księżnej Elżbiety (Duchess Elisabeth Street), the place name Elżbiecin Piastowski (references the name Elisabeth as well as the House of Piast), archaeological research and publications regarding the duchess’ place of final rest, and naming the local school after the duchess.Artykuł poświęcony jest kreowanej w okresie Polski Ludowej legendzie o księżniczce Elżbiecie, córce króla Polski Kazimierza Wielkiego, pochowanej w Szczecinku-Świątkach (przed 1945 r. Marienthron), która wpasowywała się w panującą po 1945 roku ideologię zachodnią wyrażaną w mitologii Ziem Odzyskanych.
