For the first time, the article systematically and comprehensively investigates the problem of „a man and war”, „personality and national identity” in the texts by writers of the Ukrainian Diaspora of the 1940s-1980s. It is founds out why these issues have long been relevant in the literature of the Ukrainian Diaspora, which factors have influenced the development of historical, social and socio-psychological prose, and enhanced its documentary and biographical origin. Peculiarities of the reception of war in the Diaspora prose are analyzed through the prism of a witness, chronicler of the events.
