The origins of electrotechnical education at Polish universities

This paper describes the origins of technical higher education in nineteenth-century Europe. Some attempts at founding a Polish technical university on the Polish territory annexed by other countries are presented, as are the factors which finally led to the establishment, based on the austrian emperor’s decree dated 4 September 1870, of the Technical Academy in Lvov, with instruction in Polish. The history of the electrotechnical faculties at this university and its development is described, as well as the promotions of their professors. We also learn about the electrotechnical faculty during the Second World War and what happened to its professors afterwards
