Analysis of ‘Protocols covering tests on prisoners’ in captivity of the ‘People’s’ Polish Army during fights taking place on Polish lands between August 1944 and April 1945

In Central Military Archive among the documents concerning the Second World War there are ‘Protocols covering tests on prisoners’ of soldiers from German divisions scattered across various units. The protocols refer to prisoners taken by ‘People’s’ Polish Army on ‘liberated’ Polish lands, namely the 1st and 2nd Recon¬naissance Divisions of the Allied Command and the Infantry Division (but only the 1st Army - Divisions 1, 2, 3, 4, 6.). Protocols were collected as the front was moving along in years 1944-1945. They constitute a valuable source for discovering mili¬tary situation, but also as regards the socio-political situation on the Eastern Front during the aforementioned period. In this article the author attempts at evaluating the contents of the ‘Protocols cov¬ering tests on prisoners’ – about 140 items. He analyzed the state of the saved docu¬mentation and the types of wards which prepared them as well as various titles of these documents. He concentrates on the description of ‘standard’ testimony content and discusses its consecutive points forming the whole. These included informa¬tion such as: the personal data of the prisoner, the place and method of capturing an individual, the present and then situation at the front (tasks, number and combatant status, commander level, chemical training) and moral and political situation in the final part. Finally, the author conducts an assessment of the documents.В Центральном военном архиве среди документов времен Второй миро¬вой войны сохранились разбросанные по разным частям «Протоколы опроса пленных» из немецких отрядов, попавших в руки солдат «народного» Войска Польского на «освобожденных» польских территориях. Они встречаются в разведывательных отрядах 1-й и 2-й армии с позиции общего командования и командования пехотной дивизии (но только 1-й армии – 1-я, 2-я, 3-я, 4-я, 6-я дивизии). Они накапливались по мере продвижения фронта в 1944–1945 гг. Они являются важным источником исследования не только военного положе¬ния, но и общественно-политической ситуации на восточном фронте в данный период. В статье автор попытался дать оценку «Протоколам опроса пленных». Всего их примерно 140. Он проанализировал состояние сохранившихся доку¬ментов, вид формирований, которые их составляли, и разнообразие титула¬туры документов. Он сосредоточился на описании содержания «стандартных» показаний и описал все пункты. В документе были такие пункты, как пер¬сональные данные пленного, положение на фронте в настоящий момент и в прошлом (функции, численное и боевое состояние, командиры, химическая подготовка), а в заключительной части – моральное состояние и политические взгляды.
