Traditionally, methods of measuring tree height use the distance from a person, or instrument, to the trunk and the angle at which the top or the highest visible point in the canopy can be seen. However, such measurements sometimes give wrong results as the highest visible point in the crown may hide the actual top of the tree. Besides, the location of the tree may be challenging. Also, not always professional equipment is accessible. Here, selected traditional and modern methods of measuring a tree height are presented. Short descriptions of the photographic method, the “indented” measurement and the method which uses the comparison between the height of a tree and the sunʼs position are presented
