Metabolic syndrome (the combination of hiperinsulinemia, insulin resistance, impaired glucose tolerance, visceral obesity, atherogenic dyslipidemia - high triglycerides and low HDL cholesterol) is related to an increased incidence of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
