The impact of socio-economic factors on health behaviours of teenagers living in Rybnik

Background. Socio-economic factors have long been a topic of scientific research. It has been demonstrated that these factors have a considerable influence on the health of the population. Unemployment, low income, migrations and family status (full, incomplete or shattered) affect the health of the family and children. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of socioeconomic factors on health behaviour of young people living in Rybnik. Material and methods. The survey was conducted among 391 students of Rybnik schools. Family affluence was determined using the Family Affluence Scale (FAS). The level of p <0.05 is considered as statistically significant. Results. The family status has significant impact on health behaviours. Students from broken families more often reach for stimulants and often neglect their own health. A similar result was demonstrated among children of migrants. Material status has a minor influence on health behaviour by teenagers. Conclusions. Socio-economic factors determine young people’s health. Particularly exposed to the negative health behaviours are teenagers who grow up in single-parent families and in families where at least one of the parents has emigrated.Wstęp. Wpływ czynników społeczno-ekonomicznych na zdrowie od lat jest tematem badań naukowców. Wykazano znaczny wpływ tych czynników na zdrowie populacji. Bezrobocie, niski dochód, migracje oraz status rodziny (pełna, niepełna, rozbita) wpływają na zdrowie rodziny i dzieci. Celem pracy było określenie wpływu czynników społeczno-ekonomicznych na zachowania zdrowotne młodzieży zamieszkującej miasto Rybnik. Materiał i metody.
