In in vitro trials dimethomorph, aluminium fosethyl, metalaxyl, fenamidon and fluopikolid protected the most beech seedlings against Phytophthora citricola and strongly inhibited the spread of necrosis. The compounds, applied as seedling spray immediately after their planting into soil infested with P. citricola, effectively protected plants for at least 50 day−growth. Both, grapefruit extract and chitosan may be used as biocides in the control of Phytophthora root and stem rot of beech seedlings
