Covering 133.7 mln ha of area, forests of Indonesia are an important part of world’s forest resources. In terms of size, they are one of the largest rainforest in the world. So far, 5014 tree species has been classified there. The dominant species include Shorea sp., Litsea sp., Dipterocarpus sp., Calophyllum sp., Eugenia spp., Payena sp., Vaticano sp. and Palaquium sp. Forest utilization model is based on the concessions, allowing for the commercial exploitation of forest resources. Since independence in 1945, forest utilization policy has changed many times.
