In article the review of scientific literature concerning studying viconyms, not acting as independent object of research earlier, and also literature on a problem onym – culture is carried out. Names of viconyms of the Belarusian-Polish border zone became as an object of research. The author analyzed names of 8 rural settlements of Belarus and 8 ones of Poland. The complex of codes of culture is established (topomorphous, anthropomorphous, physiographic, floristic, emotional and characterologic, spatial, social and ideological) which realization is served by viconimy of the studied regions, similarities and distinctions in their presentation in considered territories come to light
