The paper presents results of studies on associations between early experience of domestic violence and subsequent development of depression during adolescence and early adulthood. Analysis included a group of 191 students of secondary schools and universities in the Łódź agglomeration (111 females and 80 males, aged 16-27). Severity of depression was assessed using the Beck Depression Inventory. Retrospective evaluation of domestic maltreatment was performed using the Abused Child Syndrome Scale (ZDK), enabling measurement of 4 types of violence: physical, emotional, sexual and neglect.
