Anomia jest objawem zaburzeń funkcji językowych i pojawia się we wszystkich wariantach afazji pierwotnej postępującej (PPA). Celem badania była ocena profilu błędów w nazywaniu konfrontacyjnym w wariancie logopenicznym (lvPPA) i niepłynnym (nfvPPA). W badaniu uczestniczyło 12 osób z lvPPA oraz 11 osób z nfvPPA. W lvPPA wykazano głębsze deficyty leksykalno-semantyczne oraz zaburzenia przetwarzania fonologicznego, ujawniające się poprzez generowanie neologizmów w reakcji na podpowiedzi fonemiczne.
