Effect of a probiotic preparation on daily weight gain, survival rate and composition of faecal microflora in piglets

Celem eksperymentu było określenie przydatności preparatu probiotycznego w odchowie prosiąt oraz jego wpływu na skład mikroflory kałowej. Badanie przeprowadzono na 46 prosiętach mieszańcach z 6 miotów. Prosięta w miotach oznakowano, a następnie przyporządkowano do grup metodą analogów: kontrolnej (K) i doświadczalnej (D), po 23 sztuki w grupie. Prosiętom z grupy K podano Suibiofer Se i mieszaninę witamin AD3E (0,5 ml/szt.) w iniekcji, a prosiętom z grupy D jedną dawkę pasty probiotycznej Lactiferm AD3EFe++ per os. Doświadczenie prowadzono od 6. do 48. dnia życia prosiąt; kontrolowano ich masę ciała (ważenia w 1., 14., 28. i 42. dniu obserwacji) i tempo wzrostu. Trzeciego dnia po odsadzeniu od 18 prosiąt pobrano kał i dokonano oceny mikroflory (metodą płytek lanych na podłożach mikrobiologicznych: agar odżywczy, MacConkey’a, Sabouraud’a, Eijkmana). Masa ciała i przyrosty (1.- -42. dzień badań) były istotnie mniejsze w grupie D niż K (P≤0,01). Wyniki badań ilościowych bakterii z rodziny Lactobacillaceae i Streptococcaceae oraz współczynnik coli/lacto wydają się wskazywać na korzystne działanie preparatu probiotycznego. Biegunki dwukrotnie częściej występowały u prosiąt z grupy K niż D; upadki w grupach wynosiły odpowiednio 13% i 0%, co wskazuje na pozytywny wpływ Lactifermu na stan mikroflory jelit i zdrowie prosiąt.The aim of the experiment was to determine the usefulness of a probiotic preparation in rearing piglets and its effect on the composition of faecal microflora. The study was conducted on 46 crossbred piglets from 6 litters. Piglets in the litters were tagged and then assigned to the control (C) or experimental (E) group (23 animals in each group). The piglets from group C received Suibiofer Se and mixture of vitamins A, D3 and E (0.5 ml/head) by injection, and the piglets from group E were given one dose of the probiotic paste Lactiferm AD3EFe++ per os. The experiment was conducted from days 6 to 48 after the piglets were born; their body weight and growth rate were controlled (weighing on days 1, 14, 28 and 42 of observation). On the third day after weaning, faeces samples were collected from 18 piglets and the microflora was evaluated by the pour plate method on microbiological media: nutrient agar, MacConkey and Sabouraud agar, and Eijkman medium. Body weight and daily weight gain (days 1-42 day of the experiment) were significantly lower in group E than in group C (P≤0.01). The results of the quantitative determinations of Lactobacillaceae and Streptococcaceae bacteria and the coli/lacto coefficient confirmed that the probiotic preparation had a favourable effect. Diarrhoea was twice as frequent in the piglets from group C as in group E, with death rates of 13% and 0%, respectively, which confirmed the positive influence of Lactiferm on the state of intestinal microflora and the health of the piglets
