Despite the ongoing privatization, state-owned enterprises (SOEs) are still present in an economy. Moreover important changes in the ownership role of the state are taking place. The privatization is accompanied by the nationalization and the state investment. The sectoral structure of SOEs is being changed. Improvements in management and corporate governance are being implemented. In many enterprises governments become minority stakeholders but they keep effective corporate control by use of various mecha¬nisms. Following factors will have a major impact on the ownership role of the state in future: geopolitical processes, issues related to the control over natural resources and China’s economic development
