The aim of the article is to elaborate on the meaning of developing the ecological awareness in a society living in the post-industrial, knowledge-focused culture – based on the example of the recommendations of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the European Union and the Catholic Church. The article has got a problem-based structure. The source basis is composed of printed sources of: the Polish Committee for UNESCO („Biuletyn Polskiego Komitetu ds.
