The use of the Instagram photo social website in the activities of selected national and foreign libraries

The aim of the study is to examine how the libraries owning an Instagram profile manage in terms of gaining popularity and how to present the contents. Based on the popularity of profiles and the way content is presented, it was tested what may be the best patterns to get likes, to educate users or to promote the institution itself. The study was conducted in May and June of the current year. The official Instagram accounts belonging to Library of Congress (USA), British Library (Great Britain) and accounts of the Warsaw National Library and the Kraków Jagiellonian Library, the two largest libraries in Poland, were selected for the analysis.Celem opracowania jest zbadanie jak radzą sobie biblioteki na profilu Instagram w zakresie zyskiwania popularności oraz sposobu prezentacji treści. Sprawdzono również, na podstawie popularności profili i sposobu prezentacji treści, co może stanowić najlepsze wzorce do zdobywania polubień, do edukacji użytkowników lub promocji samej instytucji. Badanie przeprowadzono w maju i czerwcu br. Do analizy wytypowano oficjalne konta na Instagramie należące do: Libary of Congress (USA), British Library (Wielka Brytania) oraz konta warszawskiej Biblioteki Narodowej i krakowskiej Biblioteki Jagiellońskiej, czyli dwóch największych książnic w Polsce
