Three Centuries of the Wysłych Family in Cieszyn Silesia. A Genealogical Sketch

The article is a contribution to the study of the genealogy of peasant families in Cieszyn Silesia. The text consists of two parts: a description and a genealogical table. It is the first study of the Wysłych family, presenting the history of seven generations of the house. Its progenitor was Wawrzyniec, who came from Cierlicko (cz. Těrlicko), who in 1723 married Zofia Pawelec, a Protestant. Their descendants, who then moved to Górki Wielkie, were consistently brought up in the Catholic faith and almost always married coreligionists. Subsequent generations of the Wysłych family lived in other towns of Cieszyn Silesia (Harbutowice, Pogórze, Pruchna, Rudzica, Skoczów, Nierodzim, Lipowiec, Pudłów and Frydek), as well as in Moravia (Staříč, Vsetín), Vienna and Millburn in the state of New Jersey in the United Sta-tes. They were a poor family (they came from a group of so-called cottagers/houselholders, German: Häusler), but a very mobile and enterprising one, practicing many different crafts. It is worth adding that at the same time they also often enjoyed the trust of local elites, interacting with them (they maintained contacts with teachers, married village heads, etc.). The name Wysłych is today one of the rarest among Polish surnames, and is carried by only a few families, mainly in Cieszyn Silesia, among others in Ustroń-Lipowiec, where the eleventh generation of the family is growing up.
