Temperamental and characterological predictors of alienation among adolescents

The presented study examines the relationship between temperamental character traits and a feeling of alienation among young people. A total of 331 adolescents aged 16–20 were surveyed using the “Alienation Scale” devised by Kmiecik-Baran, and the “Temperament and Character Inventory” by Clonninger. The findings show that alienation correlates with a low need for stimulation, and character traits indicated problems with fast and effective adaptation (such as low self-directedness and reluctance to cooperate). Temperamental and character traits explained 54% of variances in the global level of alienation.Głównym celem artykułu jest poznanie związku między cechami temperamentu i charakteru a poczuciem alienacji (różnymi jego wymiarami) u młodzieży. Badania w grupie 331 uczniów szkół średnich w wieku 16–20 lat bazowały na analizie wyników w Kwestionariuszu Poczucia Alienacji Kmiecik-Baran oraz Inwentarza Temperamentu i Charakteru Clonningera (TCI). Wyniki wskazują, że poczucie alienacji jest związane z niską tolerancją na nowe bodźce i niską potrzebą stymulacji oraz nieadaptacyjnym stylem regulowania zachowania, tj. małymi zdolnościami do samokierowania oraz wrogością okazywaną innym i niechęcią do współpracy. Uzyskane dane wskazują ponadto, że cechy temperamentu i charakteru w znacznym stopniu tłumaczą poziom poczucia alienacji u młodzieży (54% wariancji wyników ogólnego poziomu wyalienowania)
