Social diversity is currently one of the key issues in the global discourse on cities and regions – a buzz word characterizing urban socio-spatial structures. Heterogeneity which creates ‘cities of difference’ increases due to transnational migration, growing spatial mobility, post-colonialism, population aging, growing importance of the ideology of meritocracy, increasing recognition of diversified human identities and ‘individualization’ as a feature of Z.
