This article discusses several theoretical perspectives that can be analyzed in the urban culture of foodies and cooking fans. These are approaches that treat food as communication, primarily communication of status and class position within the difficult-to-grasp stratification of postmodern societies (Bourdieu, Johnson, and Bauman).
