The article has confirmedthe thesis that a systematic decrease in demand has been observed on thePolish landline telephony market since 2005.The theoretical part describes the transformation of the Polish telecommunicationmarket based on its demonopolization and liberalization. For the purpose of conductingthe quantitative research the annual statistical data relating to Poland wasused; these data included: the quantity of fixed network telephone subscribers intotal and the quantity of fixed telephone subscribers per 100 inhabitants, value ofthe fixed network telephony market, the number of lines/links according to technology,the structure of revenues and the structure of traffic volume according to theselected criteria. Some of the analyses were complemented with data originatingfrom other European Union countries
