Philosophical self-awareness of Ruthenian Galician intellectuals at the end of 19th century and the beginning of 20th century: Klemens Hankiewicz and Wasyl Schcurat

Głównym celem niniejszego artykułu jest szczegółowe omówienie filozoficznych, psychologicznych, epistemologicznych i językowo-terminologicznych poglądów Klemensa Hankiewicza na ukraińską filozofię, jak również przeanalizowanie wkładu Wasyla Szczurata, historyka filozofii, w zrozumienie genezy ukraińskiej filozofii jako interakcji neoplatonizmu wschodnich Ojców Kościoła z zachodnią scholastyką. Pozwoliło to na włącznie jej w szerszy dyskurs historyczno-filozoficzny. Narzuca się wręcz potrzeba uwzględnienia dorobku Hankiewicza i Szczurata we współczesnym programie nauczania z zakresu historii ukraińskiej filozofii i wypełnienia jej „białych plam”, jak również stworzenia bardziej całościowego i konsekwentnego ujęcia ukraińskiej filozofii.In the article, the authors consider in detail the peculiarities of Klemens Hankiewicz’s philosophical, psychological, gnoseological, and linguistic views on the formation of the Ukrainian philosophical terminology. Also, the authors analyze Wasyl Schcurat’s contribution, as the historian of philosophy, to understanding the origins of Ukrainian philosophy and its interaction with Eastern and Western scholastics, thanks to which it can be included in the general European historic-philosophical discourse. The authors stress the necessity of inclusion of Klemens Hankiewicz’s and Wasyl Schcurat’s works in the contemporary didactic material derived from the history of Ukrainian philosophy for the purpose of filling in “white spots” and forming a more coherent and more uninterrupted understanding of the development of Ukrainian philosophy
