Between conformity and withdrawal – the analysis of strategies for entering into adulthood by Polish and Ukrainian youth

The paper presents results of the research conducted at the turn of the year 2012/2013 among high school graduates in Przemyśl and Drohobycz. The aim of the studies was to determine life plans and aspirations, and to indicate similarities and differences between the youth from both countries. On the one hand, the peripheral placement of this social category in the social structure may cause the effects of the crisis to influence the strategies for entering into adulthood. On the other hand, peripherality of the areas inhabited by the examined youth may accumulate these negative socio-economic processes. Thus emerging difficulties of entering into adulthood may be treated as a sensitive indicator of tensions generated by macrostructures. The main goal of the article is to capture the strategies and resources conditioning them. The Eastern borderlands may be treated as a social laboratory in which social changes take place and the youth is a sensitive measuring tool which lets observe the effects of these changes in a social tissue.W artykule zostaną zaprezentowane wyniki badań zrealizowane na przełomie roku 2012/13 wśród maturzystów w Przemyślu i Drohobyczu. Celem tych badań jest określenie planów życiowych i dążeń oraz wskazanie podobieństw i różnic, jakie występują między młodzieżą z obu państw. Z jednej strony peryferyjne ulokowanie tej kategorii społecznej w strukturze społecznej może sprawiać, że skutki kryzysu odcisną swoje piętno na strategiach wchodzenia w dorosłość. Z drugiej strony peryferyjność terenów, na których mieszka badana młodzież może te negatywne procesy społecznoekonomiczne kumulować. W związku z tym pojawiające się trudności wchodzenia w dorosłość można potraktować jako czuły wskaźnik napięć generowanych przez makrostruktury. Głównym celem referatu będzie uchwycenie owych strategii i zasobów warunkujących owe strategie. Pogranicze wschodnie można potraktować jako laboratorium społeczne, w którym to zachodzą zmiany społeczne, a młodzież jest czułym instrumentem pomiarowym, który pozwala zaobserwować skutki tych zmian w tkance społecznej
