The effectiveness of competition on the telecommunication market in Poland

Purpose – The article discusses the subject of liberalization of the telecommunication market in Poland and its impact on prices of services in this area. The authors prove that the technological progress in the field of telecommunication in Poland has not had clear influence on price reduction. Methodology – To study the indicated problem, statistical data were analyzed and a comparative method was applied, including phenomena occurring on the telecommunication market in Poland and other countries. Findings – A strong fall in prices occurred only after the release of the market and the application of competition rules. In countries where the national operator has lost its privileged position more quickly, the prices of telephone services declined much earlier.Cel. W artykule podjęta została tematyka liberalizacji rynku telekomunikacyjnego w Polsce i jej wpływ na ceny usług w tym obszarze. Autorzy dowodzą, iż sam postęp technologiczny w zakresie telekomunikacji w Polsce nie wpłynął wyraźnie na obniżkę cen. Metoda. W ramach badania wskazanego problemu posłużono się analizą danych statystycznych oraz zastosowano metodę porównawczą, obejmującą zjawiska zachodzące na rynkach telekomunikacyjnych w Polsce i innych krajach. Wyniki. Z wyraźnym spadkiem taryf mieliśmy do czynienia dopiero po uwolnieniu rynku i wprowadzeniu zasad konkurencji. W krajach, w których operator publiczny szybciej tracił swoją uprzywilejowaną pozycję, zdecydowanie wcześniej następował spadek cen usług telefonicznych
