A description of material should include its characteristic properties. Metal foams, however, lack such descriptions. This author proposes a description of geometric structure of these materials and divides characteristics of the structure geometry into four groups: porosity, shape and size of pores, actual to maximum porosity ratio, specific surface area of bubbles and the homogeneity of the foam structure, divided, in turn, into the homogeneity of pore size, shape and distribution.
