Today the hygrothermal performance of building envelope system s may accurately be predicted by validated simulation tools whose practical application is going to be standardized in Europe. Balancing diurnal and seasonal moisture fluxes by hygrothermal simulations instead of striving for a perfect seal helps to design more moisture tolerant and hence more durable building components.
