Wpływ zawartości minerałów ilastych na pracę przekrycia składowiska odpadów ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem pęcznienia

Landfill cap cover is a complex structure consisting of layers of geotextiles, drainage installation and mineral layers. It is used to protect the population and the environment from the cumulative radiation of a very low level of radioactive waste. Requirements of the Regulations and ITB instructions specify the minimum thickness of the aperture and its physical and mechanical properties. Soil with a high content of fine grained clay fraction is commonly used due to its insulating layer of the mineral sealing. After closure of the landfill it is important to maintain pre-set parameters for a long period of time with special concern to water content. The moisture loss leads to the changes in soil parameters of the landfill cap cover. The prolonged aperture settlement makes it rupture which allows the waste to penetrate the environment. In this case, the swelling of the ground which can partly increase at some point, can be beneficial to the landfill in terms of safety as well as it can prolong the time needed for the repair. The mineral composition and particle size distribution of soil determines its swelling properties. This study is to determine whether clay soils occurring in Krakow and in the vicinity could be useful for the purposes of landfill cap cover, mainly in terms of expansiveness. A number of classification research has been carried out with a particular emphasis on the degree of swelling. The Tertiary compositions occurring in Krakow were used as research material with special attention to reconstituted and undisturbed samples. The samples were analyzed according to Casagrande's plasticity chart while determination of swelling and mineral composition was based on the modified method of free swelling. A broad in-depth analysis of the case proves that it is possible to determine the approximate mineral composition of soils using a simplified method.Przekrycie składowiska odpadów promieniotwórczych składa się m.in. z warstwy mineralnego uszczelnienia. Ze względu na dobre parametry hydroizolacyjne do warstw uszczelnień mineralnych stosuje się grunty drobnoziarniste o dużej zawartości frakcji ilastej. Po zamknięciu składowiska istotnym problemem jest utrzymanie zadanych parametrów fizycznych i mechanicznych przez długi okres czasu. W wyniku utraty wilgotności, zmienia się charakter pracy gruntu w przekryciu składowiska. Połączenia między poszczególnymi ziarnami ulegają usztywnieniu co może prowadzić do powstawania rys, a w wyniku dalszego osiadania przesłony do propagacji pękania i w końcu - otwarcia drogi do wydostania się zanieczyszczeń do środowiska naturalnego. W pracy określono, czy występujące na terenie Krakowa oraz w okolicach grunty ilaste mogłyby być przydatne na cele przekrycia składowiska, zwłaszcza pod kątem ekspansywności. W tym celu wykonano szereg badań klasyfikacyjnych ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem stopnia pęcznienia, a w ramach szerszej analizy problemu rozpoznano również możliwość przybliżonego określenia składu mineralnego gruntów spoistych przy wykorzystaniu metody uproszczonej. Jako materiał badawczy wykorzystano utwory trzeciorzędowe występujące na terenie Krakowa, a w zestawie badań jakim poddano wszystkie próby są, oprócz badań klasyfikacyjnych, również oznaczenie pęcznienia oraz składu mineralnego
