The great Mongol invasion represented a moment of reference in the history of the European Middle Ages. The Romanian extra-Carpathian areas were directly concerned by these events. The installation of the Mongol authority over the Moldavian territories, by the middle of the 13th century prevented the development of some pre-state formations. On the contrary, to the south of the Carpathian chain, the Mongol invasion dislocated the hegemony exerted by Hungary and allowed the political and territorial evolution of the local formations.Cârciumaru Radu.
