Political strategies and matrimonial relation: Incas and spaniards in Huaylas in the first half of the sixteenth centur Abstract This study analyzes the political relations that were established in the province of Huaylas between the central power and the regional one first through a matrimonial relationship by Inca Huayna Capac, in prehispanic times, and later by the conqueror Francisco Pizarro. Just as the Inca favored his two mistresses — Contarguacho in the moiety of Ananguaylas and Añas Collque in that of Luringuaylas—, Pizarro granted his own mistress' moiety in encomienda to his daughter doña Francisca.
