Standardizing animal husbandry and the social vulnerability of pig farmers Our aim is to show how the structure of pig farmers’ work has made them more vulnerable over the course of half a century of public policies. In order to understand and interpret the role work has played in this social disintegration, we analyse how requirements have standardised it. This standardisation highlights how the job has changed from being constructed in collective situations with peers to situations of isolation. Basing our study on fieldwork and interviews with pig farmers, we shall show how a professional model has been constructed focusing on a transformation of peer relationships.
