This paper addresses the issue of the relationship that the colonial order keeps with its past. Instead of conceiving this relation in terms of the preservation of an original culture through resistance, it focuses on the fabrication of tradition within the disciplinary strategies of the colonial order and on the local reemployment of those productions in political mobilizations. The discussion of this major issue within the field of Andean history is undertaken against the horizon of a case of resistance focusing on the Inca from the Audiencia of Quito in the seventeenth century.
