Pentheus’ amathia. Aspects of Knowing in Euripides’ Bacchae ̶ Moving from the analysis of amathia, with which Dionysus reproaches Pentheus, we examine the various aspects of knowing that are staged in the Bacchae. It is initiatic knowledge that the god asks the city to acquire, but for Pentheus and Agaue, this knowledge turns into a dramatic staging of suffering.
