Mechaniczne zastawki serca wytwarzane są z różnych materiałów, m.in. metalu, ceramiki, polimerów. Do produkcji zastawek biologicznych, oprócz materiałów syntetycznych, używa się materiałów biologicznych poddanych odpowiedniej obróbce chemicznej. Zastawki mechaniczne mogą powodować komplikacje, wynikające z odkładania zakrzepów, dlatego pacjenci często wymagają przewlekłej antykoagulacji. W pracy przedstawiono różne rodzaje zastawek, historię i technikę ich powstawania.Mechanical heart valves are made from various materials. The may be produced from metals, ceramics and polymers, whereas the biological valves may employ, apart from synthetic components, materials of biological origin, after proper modification by means of special physico-chemical treatment. Mechanical valves are subjected to thrombus deposition and subsequent complications resulting from emboli, and so patients with implanted mechanical valves need to be subjected to a long-term anticoagulant therapy.
