The Monastery of the Preachers in Arles (13th-15th Centuries). The several documents that have been kept in the Preachers’ collection, as well as some acts scattered in solicitors’ registers and the beautiful church, still standing on the side of the river Rhone, enable to make a presentation of the monastery of the Preachers in Arles. This study sheds light on Elzéar Barthélémy’s personality - he was a prior at the monastery for thirty-one years (1436-1467). He was both the builder of the new church and the reformer who reintroduced observance in Arles, thus turning his monastery into a centre that shone forth far into the Western part of the Christendom.
