Dominican Libraries in the South of France. Preachers from the South of France used books to serve particular religious ends : studying, enlightenment, liturgy and preaching. Unfortunately, the documents are scattered and scarce and thus prevent a thorough knowledge of Dominican libraries, except for some monasteries where substantial collections still remain, especially in Toulouse and Avignon. It is clear that these libraries were kept alive for they kept on growing during the 14th and 15th centuries. Their contents are somewhat classical. A Southern touch can be seen, particularly in Toulouse, where the Jacobinic monastery holds the works of many Southern French writers.Les Prêcheurs du Midi utilisent les livres au services de finalités...
