This study relies on the rich documentation of the Holkham Archive, concerning the land holdings of the Coke family, Earls of Leicester, in Western Norfolk. It stresses the roles of three of its members, from the late sixteenth century to the middle of the nineteenth century. It defines, thus, the origins and development of the Norfolk system of Husbandry of the eighteenth century, characterized by Arthur Young, in 1771, as the new model of agricultural management.
