Farming schedules and cultivation systems in continental Europe during the XVIth century This paper tries to define the constraints governing farm improvement. Erudite cultivators were calling upon other farmers to follow the methods and examples they proposed, but in so doing, they never really envisioned the kind of yield which would have been adequate when the needs of the entire population were taken into account. As it appears in the monthly schedules included in these treatises, the model farm of the time would have been managed under particularly rigid guidelines.
