The effect of deformation parameters and the deformation scheme on the variations in the yield stress of the hard deformable aluminium alloy 5XXX

Prawidłowe wyznaczenie własności reologicznych badanego materiału w postaci wykresów naprężenie-odkształcenie, uwzględniających wpływ zastosowanego schematu odkształcenia, wartości odkształcenia, temperatury materiału oraz prędkości odkształcenia, pozwala na zwiększenie dokładności wykonywanych obliczeń, zarówno podczas korzystania z wzorów analitycznych, jak również podczas modelowania numerycznego. Wyznaczenie własności reologicznych, a głównie naprężenia uplastyczniającego jest szczególnie trudne dla procesów przeróbki plastycznej na gorąco, gdyż w strukturze materiału zachodzą złożone procesy, wynikające z mechanizmu odkształcenia plastycznego oraz procesy umocnienia, jak również aktywowane cieplnie, zależne od czasu zjawiska prowadzące do osłabienia materiału. Problem komplikuje dodatkowo zmienność temperatury, wynikająca z równoczesnego oddawania ciepła przez promieniowanie, konwekcję i przewodzenie oraz generowana w wyniku pracy odkształcenia plastycznego [1]. W literaturze technicznej można znaleźć opis wielu metod badawczych służących do określenia wartości naprężenia uplastyczniającego, wśród których należy wymienić: próbę rozciągania, ściskania oraz skręcania. W pracy określono wpływ parametrów i schematu odkształcenia na wartość i charakter zmian naprężenia uplastyczniającego trudno odkształcalnego stopu aluminium w gatunku 5XXX o ograniczonej odkształcalności. Badania plastometryczne przeprowadzono metodą jednoosiowego ściskania z zastosowaniem symulatora procesów metalurgicznych GLEEBLE 3800 oraz skręcania przy użyciu plastometru skrętnego STD 812. Określono dla obu metod wpływ zastosowanego odkształcenia, prędkości odkształcenia i temperatury początkowej próbek na zmiany naprężenia uplastyczniającego badanego materiału. Przedstawione w pracy badania stanowiły podstawę wyznaczenia własności reologicznych analizowanego stopu (łącznie z opracowaniem modeli matematycznych) pod kątem zastosowania ich do numerycznego modelowania procesu wyciskania.The correct determination of the rheological properties of investigated material in the form of stress–strain diagrams allowing for the effect of the employed deformation scheme, the deformation value, material temperature and strain rate, enables the enhancement of the accuracy of performed calculations, both when using analytical formulae, as well as during numerical modelling. Determining the rheological properties, especially the yield stress, is particularly difficult for hot plastic working processes, because of complex processes occurring in the material structure due to the plastic deformation mechanism, strain hardening processes, as well as thermally activated and time-dependent phenomena leading to a weakening of the material. The problem is additionally complicated by the temperature variation resulting from giving up the heat simultaneously by radiation, convection and conduction and being generated by the plastic deformation work [1]. Technical literature provides the description of many research methods designed for determining the yield stress magnitude, which include the tensile, compression and torsion tests. The present work has determined the effect of deformation parameters and the deformation scheme on the magnitude and behaviour of variations in the yield stress of the 5XXX grade hard deformable aluminium alloy with limited deformability. Plastometric tests were carried out by the uniaxial compression method using the GLEEBLE 3800 metallurgical process simulator and the torsion method using an STD 812 torsion plastometer. For the both methods, the effect of the employed deformation, strain rate and initial specimen temperature on the variations in the yield stress of the investigated materials was determined. The investigations presented in the paper provided the basis for the determination of the rheological properties of the examined alloy (including the development of mathematical models) to be used for the numerical modelling of the extrusion process
