This paper presents results of an investigation focusing on the effect of high acidity fuel (high TAN) on the properties of lubricating oil. The capability of the upgraded lubricating oil (increased TBN) to withstand an operation of the engine when fuelled with animal fat was checked. Two lubricating oils were compared. A thermogravimetric method is proposed for characterisation of deposits formed in the lubricating oil centrifuge
