Radar and ARPA feature certain efficacy limitations due to weather conditions and target manoeuvres. Therefore, it appears rational to supplement the information derived from radar with additional information. A system which is claimed to be tailored to perform this task is AIS delivering proper information automatically and continuously. However, in certain users opinion, integrity of AIS data is still insufficient. In this paper, discussion concerning incompleteness and integrity of this type of data is presented.
