Na przestrzeni ostatnich lat badania właściwości powierzchni soczewek kontaktowych odgrywają coraz większe znaczenie w kontekście oceny komfortu i bezpieczeństwa ich stosowania. Nieocenionym narzędziem wydaje się być mikroskopia sił atomowych (AFM), umożliwiająca charakteryzację powierzchni soczewek kontaktowych w warunkach zbliżonych do naturalnych.
