Pracę rozpoczyna krótki rys historyczny dotyczący rozwoju mechaniki ośrodków ciągłych od początków XIX w., aż do dnia dzisiejszego. Omówiono kilka wariantów równań konstytutywnych, które mogą posłużyć do opisu własności mechanicznych tkanki kostnej. Uwzględniono przy tym najnowsze osiągnięcia w zakresie mechaniki ośrodków ciągłych. W dalszej części pracy opisano problem wyznaczania stałych materiałowych.
