It is generally recognised that interactions between microalgae and bacteria play an important role in the functioning of marine ecosystems. In this context, increasing attention is paid to the processes that shape microalga-associated microbiomes. In recent years, conflicting evidence has been reported with respect to the relative importance of selective vs neutral processes in the assembly process.
