This paper aims to expose and discuss the concept of professionalism in the emerging field of teacher education, as well as the speeches that this training takes from the neoliberal and post-modern theories for education. In general, educational policies have guided content and objectives for training teachers, adapting it to a new professional profile. However, the term professionalization, initially seen as an innovator, evokes, in fact, notions of (dis) qualification, competence and accountability, whose objective is to effect reform of the brazilian State occurred in the 1990s.
