DESENVOLVIMENTO ECONÔMICO NA VISÃO DA ECONOMIA INSTITUCIONAL

This article aims to organize and summarize the main contributions of the New Institutional Economics about economic development and takes as reference analysis Douglass North, one of the founders of the school. This school of thought rejects part of the neoclassical framework and considers the institutions, the time and the State as key factors to explain the different levels of development among countries. One of the key elements is that these new assumptions respond to different real situations that, until then, the neoclassical theory had difficulties to do it. On the subject of the article, it can be concluded that there is no economic determinism and just import models or the legal imposition of certain constraints to development is not enought. Institutions, norms of each country, social beliefs as well as the historical evolution and the interpretation of the world by entrepreneurs are critical to get economic and social development.O presente artigo tem o objetivo de organizar e sintetizar as principais contribuições da Nova Economia Institucional sobre o desenvolvimento econômico e toma como referência de análise Douglass North, um dos fundadores da escola. Esta, por sua vez, rejeita parte do arcabouço neoclássico e considera as instituições, a história e o Estado como fatores fundamentais para explicar os diferentes níveis de desenvolvimento entre os países. Um dos elementos conclusivos fundamental é que estes novos pressupostos respondem a diversas situações reais que, até então, a teoria neoclássica tinha dificuldades em fazer. Quanto ao tema do artigo, pode-se concluir que não há um determinismo econômico e que não basta a importação de modelos ou a imposição legal de determinados condicionantes para que haja desenvolvimento. As instituições, as normatizações de cada país, as crenças sociais assim como a evolução histórica e a interpretação do mundo por parte dos empresários são fundamentais para que haja melhores desempenhos econômicos e sociais
